Veterans Day: Did you know?

Do you ever wonder why Veterans Day is on the 11th and does not change?  World War I ended on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.

If you ever see a man selling poppies, you might see him stop a lady and ask her if he could reposition her poppy.  The leaf should be placed at 11 o'clock to symbolize the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time when World War I formally ended.  You may also witness him tell the lady that she should wear the poppy on the right side.

The red color of the poppy represents the blood from all those who gave their lives.  The black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home.  The green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much.

What worries the man is that younger generations won't understand this, and his generation won't be around much longer to teach them.

For those that do not know, the 11th day of the 11th month is always Veterans Day.   While Veterans Day commemorates the end of World War I, it is the day we honor ALL veterans.                                                              Now you know!    Pass it on!
